The Old German heirloom tomato is a tomato variety that was originally native from a Mennonite community in Virginia during the 19th century. Presumeably, the original tomatoes of this variety were brought from Germany to the United States by early Mennonite immigrants to that area of Virginia. The tomatoes from this heirloom variety are a golden yellow with pink to red stripes that extends into the tomato's core. Each tomato, which are a beefsteak tomato type, can weigh from a pound upwards to two pounds each. Due to Indeterminate vines, this heirloom tomato will require either staking or use of tomato cages for the best results. Matures in about 85 days. Go to table of tomato varietes |
