Mr. Stripey Tomato PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 07 September 2009 13:40
The American tomato variety in question is not to be confused with the variety known as Tigerella, which was an English variety developed from a cross of the Alisa Craig tomato and another parent at the Glasshouse Research Works center. Although both of these varieties are commonly referred to as "Mr. Stripey" or "Mr. Strippy" or "Mr. Stripe" and the Tigeralla actually adopted this name first, in this scenario we are going to reserve the name Mr. Stripey for this bi-colored American tomato variety since the Tigerella is widely known under its existing name. This American variety is a large bi-color tomato of a beefsteak type. The tomato's base color is a rich golden yellow and is covered with reddish-pink vertical stripes to create a very striking color combination. Like other yellow type tomatoes, Mr. Stripey has a higher natural sugar content than most varieties, which as a consequence allows it to masquerade as a low-acid tomato variety. This variety produces some very large fruits, but is less hardy than other Bi-Color tomatoes. About 80 days to maturity.  Indeterminate.
