Livingston's White Queen Tomato PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 September 2009 13:27
Livingston's White Queen Tomato was introduced in 1882 by the famous A.W. Livingston Seed Company. Alexander Livingston could be considered the grandfather of the tomato in North America and his breeding work contributed great strides in the establishment of the tomato as a crop in the United States. White Queen was the only white tomato variety that Livingston ever introduced and it is certainly a real gem! Being that White Queen is much less known than Livingston's other tomato introductions, it is rarely mentioned among his main list of developments.

Livingston's White Queen produces a great abundance of 6 to 8 ounce, beefsteak type tomatoes that are smooth save slightly ribbed shoulders which give the variety a true old fashioned look and one of the nicest shapes of all white tomatoes. Unlike many other white varieties, Livingston's White Queen is typically remarkably free of blemishes such as cracks or catfacing that disfigure many other varieties.

This lovely variety ripens to a creamy white color throughout (a few may have a pinkish blush on the blossom end). The tomatoes are very sweet and very juicy and possess a very nice, balanced flavor. Good for slicing, salads and juicing.

This very old, very productive variety is now becoming rare.

Indeterminate. Matures in 80 to 85 days.
