During 2004, the Green Sausage Tomato was the latest rage among tomato enthusiasts. Little is known about it's origin and it is certainly, likely not an heirloom tomato variety. What is known is that this green paste tomato is a relative newcomer on the scene and that it was apparently first offered by several British seed companies. This unusual tomato variety is somewhat sausage shaped with a pointed end much like many other paste tomatoes, but where it is truly unique is in its color. Typically, paste tomatoes are red, but Green Sausage is a wonderful lime green color with distinct yellow stripes! The variety is extremely ornamental and is certainly the type of tomato to raise if your intention is to stun your guests and neighbors or perhaps your market customers as it is simply a one of a kind tomato variety. When sliced, the interior of the tomatoes are green and are somewhat remindful of a kiwi. Possesses a good taste - so far as paste tomatoes go. Green Sausage sets its tomatoes in large trusses of 6 to 8 tomatoes at once on a short, bush type plant. Determinate. Matures in 75 to 80 days. Go to table of tomato varietes |
