GM-products - a term used to identify plants and animals, whose genetic characteristics have been changed by the laboratory. Usually this is done to achieve certain goals such as increasing the resistance to frost or to improve the nutritional value. The same effect previously achieved by conventional breeding, but takes much longer and was not so effective. For example, genes can be transplanted not only from one plant to another, but also from non-plant organisms to the plant. One example - Bacillus thuringiensis type of GM maize, which contains genes BT-bacteria and is able to produce pesticides to protect against insects.
