Two foot tall plants have bush habit an do not require a trellis. Plants bear loads of 3" long pods with 7-9 dark green peas each. Wando is an extremely dependable pea variety that arose by crossing the varieties Laxton's Progress and Laxton's Perfection at the South Carolina Vegetable Breeding Lab. Wando was introduced to the public in 1943 and has been admired by gardeners in Southern and Coastal regions ever since. This dependable cropping pea variety grows to 24 to 30 inches in height (dwarf strains have been reported) and is a prolific producer of 4 inch pea pods containing 7 to 9 dark green peas per pod. Wando's excellent crop is ideal for canning or freezing. Suitable for climates with extremes of both hot and cold weather. Very tolerant to heat where other peas fail.
