Traill soybean is a 1997 release by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. Traill is classified as a Group OO maturity and is similar to Agassiz. It is approximately 8 days later than McCall soybean. Traill is a selection from a cross between M82-996 X Sigco 20. It has purple flowers, tawny pubescence, brown pods when mature, intermediate coat luster and yellow hila. Traill soybean has exhibited good seedling vigor and good tolerance to iron chlorosis. It appears to yield well after recovery from stunting due to saturated soil water conditions. Traill has no major genes for phytophthora root rot resistance. Traill has yielded well compared to Agassiz and other early maturing soybean varieties in both regional and national tests. Seed protein and oil content of Traill are similar to Agassiz. Traill was developed with partial financial support from the ND Soybean Growers and ND Soybean Council. Traill is a PVP-protected variety and seed sale is regulated by the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act with Title V restrictions. At the request of the ND Soybean Council, NDSU has placed a $0.50 per bushel Research Fee on seed sales of Registered and Certified classes of Traill as a means of supporting future research and breeding efforts .
