67 days Husk green, with reddish tinge; excellent quality; prefers cooler-season areas. Sugar and Gold is an excellent, high quality, bi-colored, sweet corn variety. Producing 8-inch long ears with 14 delicious rows of sugar-sweet kernels, it is an excellent variety for the home vegetable garden. Try some Sugar and Gold corn this growing season for a delicious family table treat. Sowing: Plant corn seed outdoors in a sunny location, the latter part of May, after all danger of frost is past. Make a group of 4 to 6 seeds placed in a circle 6 inches across. Cover seeds with 1 inch of soil, well pressed down. Each circle is called a hill. Space hills 3 feet apart. Sugar and Gold may also be planted in rows, spacing seed 3 to 5 inches apart in the row. Plant several rows side by side to aid in pollination. Thinning: When Sugar and Gold corn plants are 4 to 5 inches tall, thin to 3 or 4 strongest plants in the hill or 6 to 8 inches apart in the row. Germination: Sugar and Gold corn seed germinates in 8 to 10 days depending on soil temperature and weather conditions. Remark: For continuous harvest, plant Sugar and Gold corn every 2 to 3 weeks till mid-summer. For highest yields, fertilize corn 2 to 3 times during the season. When cultivating, pull soil up around corn plants to help prevent wind damage. Pick corn when silks turn brown. Sugar and Gold corn is excellent for canning or freezing.
