Silver Princess combines exceptional eating quality with the added advantage of mid-early maturity. In studies, this variety demonstrated a tender pericarp and sweet flavor. Its mid-early maturity offers growers the opportunity to be first-to-market to offer high quality white sweet corn. It is vigorous in growth and earlier maturing than other varieties of quality white sweet corn. Stunning 2 1/2 weeks earlier than Silver Queen, delicious new white-kernelled Sweet variety.
The 7-8" white ears with 18-20 rows of tender, oh-so-sweet white kernels mature a full two weeks earlier on vigorous disease tolerant plants. A superior sugary enhancer type white sweet corn. Ears are tender and flavorful.
Boasting all the crisp, rich flavor of the other members of the "royal family," Silver Princess gets you going a lot sooner, extending your season of good eating!
Tolerant of Northern Corn Leaf Blight, Stewart's Wilt, and Common Rust, these plants are hearty garden performers, reliable and trouble-free.
Special directions for short season climates:
Sowing: Outdoors in late spring when soil and weather have warmed and all danger of frost has passed. Sow seeds 4 to 6 inches apart and 1 inch deep.
Spacing: When planted in traditional garden rows space rows 24 to 30 inches apart.
Thinning: When established seedlings are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin them 8 to 12 inches apart.
Germination: Usually 7 to 10 days. Keep seedbed moderately moist during germination. Plant in full sun.
Special advice:
To conserve space and for best pollination, plant in blocks made up of short rows, thinned to 8 to 12 inches apart in all directions. Fertilize and cultivate soil prior to planting. Sweet corn benefits from a side dressing of fertilizer before tassels appear. Water deeply when soil is dry. To preserve best flavor and tenderness, pick corn just a few minutes before use. Remove cornstalks from garden after end of harvest. Compost or use stalks for decoration.
