An old variety that was once a standard variety throughout the corn belt.
It is a little earlier than Boone County White, with somewhat smaller ears but usually deeper grains.
The ears grow about nine inches long and have fourteen to sixteen rows of large, white kernels.
This is a roasting corn variety that is also used for grits, meal, and feed. '
Silver Mine has round ears that taper at the end, with small white cobs, and kernels that are of medium width and depth with a smooth to rough dent. Its stalks and foliage are not as heavy as other varieties.
