The Roma II Green Bean is a bush type, Italian Romano bean that produces a delicious crop of wide, light green flavorful pods. Its nutritious pods are slow to develop fiber and seeds which gives its 5 inch long pods a better texture when used as snap beans than other bean varieties. The Roma II Green Bean is extremely productive, easy to grow and very easy to harvest due to its upright bushy growth habit. Its wide, light green, smooth flat pods are borne at the top of upright, bush plants for easy picking. Roma II's flavorful pods are slow to develop fiber and seeds, which gives its pods better texture, longer than other romano beans. Special directions for short season climates: Sowing: Sow seeds after all danger of frost has passed and soil temperature has warmed to 50 degrees or more. Sow seeds on their side, covering them with 1 to 1 1/2 inches of fine soil firmed down. Spasing: Plant seeds 2 inches apart in rows 2 feet apart. If limited for space, plant seeds in wide rows 4 to 6 inches apart in all directions. Thinning: Thin plants to 4 to 6 inches apart when about 4 inches tall. Germination: 1 to 2 weeks depending upon weather and soil conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Special advice: Grows best in a sunny location with rich well drained soil. For a continuous supply of fresh beans, sow successive crops at 1 to 2 week intervals through early summer. Snip ends from beans prior to cooking. Its distinctive romano flavor can be enjoyed in any green bean recipe. Matures in 59 days. Go to table of bean varieties |
