The Pencil Pod Black Wax Bean was originally introduced to the gardening public in 1900. Presumably, this lovely Wax Bean arose by crossing the Improved Black Wax Bean and the Black Eyed Wax Bean some years earlier. Ever since its introduction 104 years ago, this has been the dominant Wax Bean variety grown in America. The Black Pencil Pod Wax Bean features a dwarf, upright bush type plant that reaches 14 to 16 inches in height. This lovely wax bean variety is a very dependable early producer of a large number of stringless, curvedĀ yellow pods that reach 5.5 to 6 inches in length that contain lovely black bean seeds. The pods snap easily and due to their brilliant yellow color, make for something different in the way of snap beans, which can be used fresh or canned. The variety is an excellent choice for freezing. As a very heavy, long season yielder, the Black Pencil Pod Wax Bean is one of the best choices in the way of wax beans for your garden. Germinates well in cold soils and is also very resistant to heat! Matures in 50 days. Go to table of bean varieties |
