The Native Gem Hybrid is a very early bicolor sweet corn. The ears grow 8" long with 12-14 rows of delicious kernels. The Native Gem plants are sturdy and grow to about 5 feet tall. • Hybrid Seed • 95% Germination rate • 66 days from plant until harvest • 99% Pure • Country of Origin: USA Planting instructions: Plant Native Gem corn when all danger of frost is gone in a sunny location. The ground should be enriched with organic material then cultivated and loosened for best results. Press soil firmly over seeds and keep moist. Plant in blocks of at least four rows side by side to insure best results from pollination. Avoid one long row style planting. Plant every three weeks for extended harvest. Different varieties of corn should generally be separated by 500 feet to prevent cross pollination. • Planting depth: 1-1 ½" • Seed spacing: 4-6" • Row spasing: 30-36" • Germination temperature: 50-85 • Days to maturity: 66 • Spacing after thinning: 8-12" • Germination time in days: 7-10 Care: Control weeds weekly by cultivating to form hills around corn. Native Gem corn enjoys occasional deep watering in hot temperature areas. Harvesting: Pick ears when firm and silk turns sandy brown. The kernels should be milky and tender when tested with thumbnail. Nutritional Value: Excellent source of minerals and vitamins. Collecting Seed: Leave a few long healthy Native Gem cobs on the stalk until the kernels show denting. Pick the cobs and dry the kernels completely before removing them from the cob. Store in a cool, dry area. Go to table of corn varieties |
