The Mammoth Melting Sugar Pea is the standard in edible Snow Peas and was introduced commercially to the gardening public prior to 1896. The variety has stood the test of a century and has remained popular since its original introduction. Wilt resistant vines up to five feet in height produce white blossoms that are beautiful enough to use as cut flowers, which soon yield excellent flat, green pea pods. The pea pods are edible and possess a sweet taste with a crisp, tender flesh that is wonderful when used in stir frys or even eaten raw right out of the garden. Even if harvesting is delayed and the pods begin to fill out, they remain very tender and sweet, where as other varieties may grow tough or bitter. The plants are extremely productive. When grown on wires, one 35 foot row of Mammoth Melting Sugar Peas can produce over an entire bushel of usable pods. This high yielding snow pea is a uniform producer that thrives even in the cool weather of northern climates. Will produce continually if the pods are harvested regularly. Matures in 70 days.
