The short growing season and the delicious, distinctive flavor of this European pole bean make it a favorite among bean aficionados. The Kwintus’ 8”-10” stringless and bulgy pods keep their flavor longer, and ripen 10 to 20 days earlier, than most other green bean varieties. Their short growing season means you can grow them nearly anywhere. Toss Kwintus green beans into Italian pasta dishes, stir-fries or a minestrone soup, or have them right out of the garden for a mid-morning snack. Developed in France for the European gourmet market, Kwintus is a flat pole bean with a wonderful, Romano-type flavor and an unusual, tender texture. A vigorous and prolific grower on abundant, 8' vines, its light green pods are up to 11" long but barely 1/2" thick. For a flavorful treat, lightly steam, then saute the beans in olive oil with halved cherry tomatoes, diced shallots, slivered bell peppers and a sprinkling of fresh chopped basil. Great as a hot evening's main course with fresh bread in a cold salad with steamed potatoes, roasted bell peppers, red onions, black olives and a zesty garlic vinaigrette. • Maturity: Approx. 43 days • Planting season: Late spring Go to table of bean varieties |
