Description: Greensage is the exciting result of new hybridisation to create an even sweeter, exhibit quality, garden-worthy pea. The gardeners' and exhibitors' favourite Greenshaft, has been crossed with a semi-leafless variety to produce the even sweeter tasting pea Greensage. Pods over 20cm (8in) long, with 8-11 peas, are produced over a long period on semi-leafless, upright plants. Height: 30 inches Sowing instructions: Sowing time: early to mid-spring zones 2-7, early to mid-fall zones 8-10. Can be sown every 10 days for succession. Sowing depth: 5cm (2in) deep, about 2.5-5cm (1-2in) apart, and in rows 75cm (30in) apart. Sow in flat-bottomed drills. Growing instructions: When plants are 10cm (4in), tall provide twiggy sticks for support. Height 75cm (30in). Aftercare instructions: The peas will be ready to harvest around 70 days from sowing date, and regular picking will encourage further cropping. Plants are self supporting when sown in blocks. Prefers well drained, moist, rich conditions. Kitchen notes: Delicious when cooked the traditional way -steamed or boiled with a sprig of fresh mint. Go to table of pea varieties |
