Description:
A popular early yellow sweet corn, well adapted to northern latitudes. It has fairly large ears for an early variety. At just 60 days to maturity, Earlivee ushers in corn season.
Earlivee's sweet kernels are a deep buttery yellow and are on well-filled 6-7 inch ears. 2 to 14 rows of sweet kernels on 6 to 7 inch long ears, protected by a medium green husk. Plants are about 5 feet tall, and need much nutrition to develop quickly.
Originally domesticated by Mesoamericans, it is a staple food with many other traditional uses. Home gardeners love to grow corn, and there are many varieties suited to different climates.
Plant seeds 1 inch deep in rows or clumps, two weeks after the last frost date.
Corn needs rich soil, full sun and adequate moisture to produce good ears. It is wind pollinated, so if you want to save seed, you will need to either stagger the planting time of different varieties, or plant them 1/4 mile apart. Water deeply.
These need ample levels of nutrition to develop rapidly.
Earlivee will get your taste buds primed for the later but sweeter varieties that follow.
It's sweet flavor and texture is at best when eaten soon after picking.
Extra early.
Cold resistant. Often produces two 6-8" ears with 14 rows on 3 1/2 ft. stalks.
Grown in Alaska and Canada.
