CDC Milestone PDF Print E-mail

CDC Milestone lentil is especially suited to markets where a firm cooked seed is important as they remain intact after cooking.
Crimson and CDC Milestone responded similarly to FLIP genotypes, but were more similar to the large green cultivars for lodging and biomass. CDC Milestone and Crimson had improved canopy architecture compared to large green cultivars.
The small seed size of CDC Milestone lentil required a seeding rate of 30 lb/acre.
Since 1998, CDC Milestone, a small green lentil (Eston-type), had the most lentil grain production, with an average of 1,431 pounds per acre (23.9 bu/acre), but was only but was only significantly greater than Laird, French Green, Crimson and Indianhead lentils. CDC Milestone had consistently better yields than Laird
Enough seed of CDC Milestone became available to replace production of Eston lentil in 2000.
CDC Milestone lentil is about 15% higher yielding than Eston. Height and maturity are similar to Eston. Seed weight is 39 g/1000 seeds, relative to 34 g/1000 seeds for Eston lentil.
Seed coat colour is similar to Eston lentil but without the faint mottle. It should be an acceptable
replacement for Eston lentil in the export market.
