Description: Wrinkle, green.
Canoe packs more peas per pod than any other variety we've seen. Approximately a dozen delightfully sweet peas snuggle in each long, slightly curved, boat-shaped pod. The semi-leafless plants reach 30 inches, and provide plentiful crops. This variety is a canner's dream since more peas per pod means less shelling.
Days to maturity: 70.
We believe Pea Canoe produces the most seeds in a pod. We have spotted many 11 and 12 seeded pods in the seed crop, but can you find lucky 13? This aptly named variety has long, slightly curved pointed pods similar to a canoe. Pea Canoe produces a heavy crop of pods, on semi-leafless, almost self supporting plants when grown in a block. Ideal for freezing and sure to be an exhibition variety of the future.
Sowing instructions:
Sow seeds March to June. Sow March to June every 10 days for succession. Sow seeds 5cm (2in) deep in flat-bottomed drills spacing about 2.5-5cm (1-2in) apart, and in rows 75cm (30in) apart.
Growing instructions:
When plants are 10cm (4in), tall provide twiggy sticks for support. Height 75cm (30in).
Aftercare:
The peas will be ready to harvest around 12-13 weeks from sowing date, and regular picking will encourage further cropping. Plants are self supporting when sown in blocks. Prefers well drained, moist, rich conditions.
