The Blue Lake Bush Bean is a bush version of the famous Blue Lake Pole Bean that is hands down, historically, the best Pole Bean ever offered anywhere in the world. Having originally been introduced by the Asgrow Company in 1962, Blue Lake combined the great flavor and production of the original Blue Lake Bean on an easy to manage, upright bush-type plant of 15 to 18 inches in height. There has been no looking back ever since, for the Blue Lake Bush Bean quickly became the most widely grown bush bean variety in the United States and has remained so for over 35 years! The Blue Lake Bush Bean features a lush, green upright bush type plant that produces an abundance of old fashioned 5 to 5.5 inch long green, stringless pods. The pods possess an exceptional, sweet flavor like green beans are meant to have. When cooked, the meaty, white seeded bean pods retain their firmness. Unlike other bush bean varieties, Blue Lake Bush Beans retain their tenderness over a long period. If harvested regularly, the Blue Lake Bush Bean will continue to yield a heavy crop over the entire season. This wonderful bush bean variety is a must for every garden and is resistant to Bean Mosaic virus and adapts to a wide range of climates. Although this variety, like all other bush beans are best used fresh, the "green beans" of this variety are exceptional for storage, either canned or frozen. In fact, this variety was once the dominant canning bean on the market! Matures in 50 to 60 days. Go to table of bean varieties |
